Sweet Dreams, Baby!
The Kunstmuseum Basel presents prints from every creative phase of the US pop art legend Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997). Thanks to a recent generous donation from the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, now on view for the first time, the collection of the Department of Prints and Drawings (Kupferstichkabinett) ranks among the most important Lichtenstein holdings outside the US.
From iconic comic explosions to playful reworkings of classical art, the exhibition offers a vivid look at five decades of experimentation. Etchings, linocuts, lithographs, silkscreens, and woodcuts reveal how Lichtenstein drew on visual culture and transformed it into a new artistic language. Around 35 works invite visitors into Lichtenstein's colorful, ironic, and exuberant world.
