Social upheavals led to breaks in the biographies of Alexei von Jawlensky and Chaïm Soutine. Both left their Russian and Belarusian homelands and came to the West: Jawlensky in 1906 to Munich, Soutine in 1913 to Paris. The Kunstmuseum Basel is showing their works from the Im Obersteg collection in an intimate cabinet exhibition.
