The Kunstmuseum Basel’s collections comprise ca. 4,000 paintings, sculptures, videos, and works of installation art, as well as the ca. 300,000 drawings and prints from seven centuries held by the Kupferstichkabinett. Obviously, we cannot present more than a small fraction of these treasures at our three venues.

A considerably larger selection is available through our Sammlung Online (Collection Online), which provides quick and easy access to the works, grouped by periods and artists, as well as carefully researched background information.

The database currently covers almost our entire holdings of paintings, sculptures, videos, and installation art and a sizable and steadily growing contingent of ca. 5,000 drawings, watercolors, and prints. An indispensable tool for art historians, the Sammlung online is also an invitation to art lovers everywhere to embark on a virtual journey through art history.
