Please note that strollers are not allowed in the museum. You can park your stroller in the courtyard of the Hauptbau (monitored parking).

Once upon a time... at the Kunstmuseum Basel

On Family Day, immerse yourself in the world of old and new fairy tales at the Kunstmuseum Basel! Stop by the puppet theater or get to know new hero:ines in our pop-up library. Create your own puppets or create never-before-seen fairy-tale characters in the collage workshop. Afterwards, you can show off your superpower and bring it to life on paper with your whole body!

Admission to the museum is free on Family Day. All Family Day events are also free of charge. The special exhibition Paula Rego. Power Games is available at a reduced rate.

Family tour of the exhibition Pairings
How do you decide which artworks hang next to each other in a museum? What do they have in common? On this tour of the current exhibition, we discover “picture pairs” that visitors of all ages helped select. With curator Géraldine Meyer and children's co-curator Maira van Dam.

“What's in the Suitcase?” – Puppet theater with Teatro Tatarira
Be enchanted by a special puppet theater play and immerse yourself in alternative fairy tale worlds, with live music.

Puppet workshop
Whether you want to make a deep-sea monster, a grandmother or your own reflection – come to our puppet workshop and use simple materials to create figures for your fantasy world.

Our sensory trail, made of crackling materials and reflective surfaces, offers a space for toddlers from 0 to 3 years of age to experience their surroundings and their own bodies.

Body feelings
Where in your body is anger located? What do you feel in your stomach when you are ashamed? What color is anticipation for you? The floor of the art museum becomes a large canvas. Paint with your whole body and bring your feelings to paper.
