With the refurbishment of the ‘Laurenz-Bau’ and the main building now complete, Kunstmuseum Basel has acquired additional and considerably enhanced exhibition spaces on the ground floor. These new spaces will be opened to the public with a presentation of art since 1960 to coincide with the major Jasper Johns exhibition. On the garden side of the new tract, the display starts with works by Andy Warhol and Cy Twombly, while the ambulatory of the inner courtyard contains sculptural works, including early pieces by Bruce Nauman, whose famous neon piece The True Artist Helps the World by Revealing Mystic Truths might take on an iconic presence to parallel that of Hans Holbein’s The Dead Christ in the Tomb.
