Come by and discover our studio on the ground floor of the exhibition Cao Fei! Here you’ll find a space to explore various themes from the exhibition in your own way and in a playful manner. Check out our curated gaming station, dive into futuristic graphic novels, design an avatar for your alter ego on our interactive worksheet, or just relax. The studio is open to everyone and free to visit.

Would you like to dive even deeper into virtual worlds? Then come check out our curated Gaming Station! Here, you can rediscover beloved retro games or plunge into digital adventures—brave heroes and heroines, unimaginable creatures, and undiscovered planets await you. You can play on your own or together with your friends, siblings, or parents.
Graphic Novels Library:
Just like the exhibition, Studio Gegenwart is full of stories: Join the little robot TIM-21 on his galactic journey, follow Ali as she searches for her mother through a dystopian city, or learn more about Professor Wang Miao’s discovery, which could permanently turn the world as we know it upside down. You’ll find these and many more adventures—from non-fiction comics to manga—in our graphic novel library.
“My Avatar” Activity Sheet:
Grab an activity sheet and some colored pencils and create your very own avatar! Whether with majestic wings, as a half-robot, or as an underwater goddess: with our activity sheet, you can design a completely new version of yourself with unique abilities. When you’re done, feel free to take your avatar home or hang it on the bulletin board in Studio Gegenwart alongside the other dazzling hybrid creatures.
Portable Guide:
Pick up a Portable Guide and make your way through the exhibition. The Portable Guide is your personal set of key cards and will accompany you from level to level. On each key card, you’ll find questions and prompts that encourage you to discover Cao Fei’s works and take a closer look.
