Dancing is fun and an expression of artistic diversity, a bridge between generations, a means of cultural understanding and a valuable contribution to health. As part of the Basel Region Tanzfest 2025 and on the occasion of the Eurovision Song Contest, the courtyard of the Kunstmuseum will be transformed into a place for people to dance together. Come by and dance with us!
Open Class – Souldance
11–11.45 a.m: Souldance | Marcina de Almeida
For Marcina de Almeida, soul dance stands for passion, urban dance, a positive body image and joy. Marcina's classes are about using a bit of technique to find your own groove and letting yourself go with the music.

This session, open to all age groups, body types, and experience levels, invites participants to explore dance techniques in the inspiring setting of the Kunstmuseum Basel. Experience the joy of movement – and be part of an inclusive and energetic dance experience!

1–1.45 p.m: For All Generations | Maria Libertad Pedreira
Grandparents, parents, kids, or teens – everyone is welcome, no prior experience needed. Come by, feel the positive energy, and discover how dance can bring generations together. Join in – for your health, your well-being, and a unique shared experience with others!

Tea Time Vinyl
11 a.m–2 p.m
Come by, have a cup of tea and enjoy selected music. How does it work? The audience names a keyword, for example “Dance” – and the DJ team plays songs with titles that include the word. For example, “Dance Little Sister” by Terence Trent d'Arby and other gems.
The DJ team, consisting of Claude, Jörg, Lavinia, Paul and Walther, play in a ping-pong mode – with the DJs changing after each track!
Thé dansant
2–5 p.m
On Sunday afternoons, people aged 60 and over are invited to enjoy coffee and cake and to dance in the courtyard of the art museum. Gio and Alex play “Golden Melodies”: German Schlager, pop, country, rock 'n' roll and much more.
From May 14–18, Tanzfest Switzerland will celebrate its 20th anniversary. In Basel as well, the diverse program will put dance in the spotlight and spark joy in art, community, and movement – five days full of dance, joy, and encounters!
