Issues of Our Time: An evening with Teju Cole on his new novel "Tremor"

Teju Cole is a novelist, essayist, and photographer. Cole is currently the Gore Vidal Professor of the Practice of Creative Writing at Harvard and a contributing writer to the New York Times Magazine. His most recent book is a novel entitled Tremor (2023), named book of the year is being published in German now. In this novel, Cole dives deep into the colonial history of the USA and uses literary means to investigate how it leaves its mark to this day.

In the event series Issues of Our Time, important thinkers from various disciplines take a stand on pressing contemporary issues and shed light on critical contexts that are driving today’s societies.

A Light Lyricism. Reading Group and Literary Companion to "When We See Us"

In English. In six public reading group sessions, we work through a selection of texts by James Baldwin, Ken Bugul, Teju Cole, Akwaeke Emezi, Bernardine Evaristo, Andrea Lee, Maaza Men, Kwame McPherson, Johny Pitts, Koleka Putuma, Zadie Smith, and Brandon Taylor. All texts will be made available to participants in advance. Age: from 16 years. Admission is free, registration is required via ticket link.

Nous remettons en question nos habitudes visuelles ! A travers des trous d'observation et des télescopes que nous avons fabriqués nous-mêmes, nous cherchons des motifs inhabituels dans les salles de musée et les œuvres d'art. Une fois dessinées et reproduites, nos esquisses seront assemblées au Studio Gegenwart en une seule œuvre d'art globale, un grand tapis à motifs. Inspiriert von «When We See Us» hat OKRA Collective eine neue audiovisuelle Installation entwickelt. Die hypnotisierende Kombination aus Stimmen, Geräuschen und polyrhythmischer Musik handelt vom Schwarzen Alltag aus einer afrodiasporischen Perspektive. In Zusammenarbeit mit Anti-Mass, einem Kollektiv und Label aus Kampala/Uganda. Eintritt: CHF 25/15 (Link folgt)
