As part of the exhibition The Acid Lab, Dr. Nadine Orenstein, curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, will talk about the beginning of the printed etching. The history of printmaking has been punctuated by moments of great invention that have completely changed the course of a medium. The beginnings of etching in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries in Europe represents one of those pivotal moments when etching moved out of the workshop of armor decorators and into those of printmakers and painters.
