The Kunstmuseum Basel’s collections comprise ca. 4,000 paintings, sculptures, videos, and works of installation art, as well as the ca. 300,000 drawings and prints from seven centuries held by the Kupferstichkabinett. And around 200 people work at the Kunstmuseum Basel in a wide variety of professions - full-time, part-time, on an hourly basis. Some of them present their favourite works from the collection here.

1. Name and role at the Kunstmuseum Basel?
Monika Mascus, Registrar

2. Job description
As a registrar I organise transport and insurance for exhibitions. The communication with the lenders, often the artists themselves, is handled by me. I am responsible for the works until they are installed in the exhibition.

3. What's your favorite work?
Sam Gilliam's Green April, 1969.

4. Why?
The work is huge, 250 x 700 cm, and exudes total calm. The artist dedicated it to Martin Luther King, and I always wonder what his thoughts were when he painted it.

5. Describe the work in three adjectives.
Deep, blue, dreamy.
