We look forward to welcoming you back to our three venues from Tuesday, 12 May. The Kunstmuseum Basel has developed a comprehensive safety concept for the public and staff. In doing so, we are following the guidelines of the Swiss Confederation, the Canton of Basel City and the recommendations of the Association of Swiss Museums.
The exhibition "Picasso, Chagall, Jawlensky. Masterpieces of the Im Obersteg Collection" was extended until June 21. This leaves almost two months to see the "unique rendez-vous of two Arlequins by Picasso", which has been quoted in several media and which had already generated a great deal of interest before the opening of the exhibition in February.
The exhibition "Circular Flow. On the Economy of Inequality" at the Kunstmuseum Basel | Gegenwart, which has gained in urgency with its questions on mass unemployment, capitalism and the consequences of globalization, was extendet until July 19, and "Luminous Figures. Drawings and Stained Glass Paintings from Holbein to Ringler" at Kunstmuseum Basel | Neubau was extended until July 5.
Some shows, including Kara Walker's exhibition planned for May and the upcoming special exhibitions "The Incredible World of Photography" and "Isa Genzken" had to be postponed due to the Corona Pandemic. The updated exhibition dates can be found on our website.
Programmes in digital space
Events and accompanying programmes such as guided tours will unfortunately not be possible in the first phase due to the ban on assembly. We will therefore continue to be active on our digital and social media channels and offer live tours of our exhibitions on Instagram and Facebook, for example. Other digital formats are in the works and will be communicated as soon as possible.
The health of visitors and staff remains a central concern for the Kunstmuseum Basel. For this reason, a comprehensive protective concept for the public and employees has been drawn up, which includes the following points:
• Visitors should, if possible, obtain a ticket online in advance. On site we prefer payment by card.
• Access to individual exhibition rooms and, in principle, also to the museum can be temporarily restricted if there are too many people in them.
• The visitor navigation in the museum will be adapted so that the rules of distance can be observed.
• At central locations hand disinfectants are provided for visitors and the infrastructure of the museum is additionally cleaned.
• There is no mask obligation.
• We ask visitors who feel ill or have COVID-19 symptoms to stay at home.
We would like to thank our visitors for their understanding of these measures and for helping us to observe these rules for their own protection and that of their fellow human beings.
The bistro of the Kunstmuseum Basel will presumably also resume operations on May 12. A protection concept will be implemented in line with the Federal Council's measures for restaurants. The range of food and drink on offer will be adapted to suit the circumstances.
The shop of the Kunstmuseum Basel with its locations in the Hauptbau and the Neubau will also be open during the museum's regular opening hours from 12 May. A protection concept will be implemented in line with the Federal Council's measures for the retail trade.
