Have you been organising your wardrobe in the last weeks and you want to throw away your winter clothes to buy new ones for the summer?

This Live-Stream-Workshop offers you a better solution. Each participant is asked to take old clothes, textiles and other waste materials to create new unique luxury items to add new value to mass-produced clothing.

How? By following these 7 steps:

  • What is upcycling?
Upcycling (up "upwards" and recycling "reuse") is the process of converting (seemingly) useless materials into new products. In this workshop are given an insight into modern upcycling techniques in fashion and through contemporary African artists.

  • Favorite garment
Personal introduction of the participants by showing and by describing of their garment of choice.

  • Your waste
What do you want to upcycle? Personal clothing and textile waste and other discarded materials.

  • Waste's value
Selection and analysis of the waste materials to transform.

  • Tools
Scissors, sewing needle, thread, pins, writing tools, tape measure, rulers and sewing machine (not essential).
Good attitude towards upcycling, craftsmanship and sustainability is always the most powerful tool!

  • Working session
Sewing, printing, embroidery, weaving, hand-dyeing, cutting, hand finishing and more to discover. Everything is possible!

  • Share
Share the result from the workshop on your Instagram and Facebook accounts with the hashtag #onlineupcycling!

The concept of the Workshop is part of Rafael Kouto's brand values, in which we encourage to upcycle through an open source production in fashion.
